Wuthering heights is a novel which I personally liked so much. Written by Emily Bronte.
It is a novel that is told in series of flash backs and narratives which are themselves told to the narrator, a gentleman named lockwood who rents a fine house and park called Thrushcross Grange and gradually learns more and more about the histories of two local families from a housekeeper, Ellen Dean who have lived with one of the families for all her life and witnessed the destinies of each member of the original owners of the heights.
In around 1760, a gentleman farmer named Earnshaw went from his farm “wuthering heights” to Liverpool on a business trip where he found a little boy and brought him back with him to join his own family that consists of his daughter: Catherine, his son: Hindley, a manservant named Joseph and the maid: Ellen dean. Hindley and the other members of the family didn’t like the boy except Catherine who was happy to have a playmate. However, thing will change after the death of Earnshaw and Hindley takes over the household with his wife. Hindley used his power to reduce Heathcliff to the level of a servant; although Heathcliff and Catherine continue their intimacy.
one day Heathcliff and Catherine ran down to another farm: the Grange where the Lintons lived with their children: Edgar and Isabella. They didn’t like the spoiled Linton children so they yelled at them through the window and Catherine was caught. Catherine stayed at the Grange for 5 weeks and when she came, she was fully dressed and acting properly like a young lady. Hindley and his wife were pleased for that while Heathcliff was sad and unhappy. Catherine became aware that she and Heathcliff will never be together that’s why she accepted the proposal of Edgar Linton, the wealthy owner of the Grange.
