The difference between Western and Eastern education

People tend to think that there are various differences between the eastern and western education and that the western education is much better than the eastern. But what makes these differences? And what makes the western education better? Well, that’s what we’re going to discuss below.

Firstly, the way students learn differs from East to West. For instance, eastern education is mainly based on textbooks in addition to the old way of dictating the courses to students. They focus on classics and exams. Teachers often have to rush through the textbooks to meet the deadline of each examination. Therefore, students learn from memorizing without understanding the courses given. And the lack of understanding results in the need for cram-schools.
If we take a look at the western way we may find it totally different: students are often given assignments in the format of a report or project. And they have to do their own researches. Presentations are also expected to be given with a clear voice and good information. The skill of taking notes directly from the teacher’s lecture replaces textbooks.

Child labor

All over the world, children under the age of 18 continue to work long hours for low payment. Millions of them work under hazardous conditions damaging their health, physical and mental development.
According to the statistics given by the International labor organization, there are about 250 millions of children between the age of 5 and 14 years who are in economic activity in the developing countries for 120 million of them work in full-time activity. The remainder combines work with schooling or other non-economic activities.
In other terms, Africa comes first in the amount of working children with an average of 41 per cent of the total number of children aged between 5 and 14, compared to 22 per cent in Asia and 17 per cent in Latin America.

Those little children are always exposed to danger: health problems (serious injuries and illnesses) drug addiction, mistreatments, and all kinds of abuse.

The most important factors contributing to child labor problem is poverty. The low income of the parents forces the children to work and supplement the family income. Poor school education is as well one of the main reasons for many children to drop out of schools and go to the work place. Moreover, illiteracy among parents and ignorance of the value of education also facilitates the growth of child labor. In addition to that, the government and the concerned authorities do not pay much attention to this rising menace, many children were deprived from their basic rights like the right of education and the right to protection from abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination…

Wuthering heights

Wuthering heights is a novel which I personally liked so much. Written by Emily Bronte.88 u2007754 0 EmilyBront WutheringHeightsPenguinClassic Wuthering heights
It is a novel that is told in series of flash backs and narratives which are themselves told to the narrator, a gentleman named lockwood who rents a fine house and park called Thrushcross Grange and gradually learns more and more about the histories of two local families from a housekeeper, Ellen Dean who have lived with one of the families for all her life and witnessed the destinies of each member of the original owners of the heights.
In around 1760, a gentleman farmer named Earnshaw went from his farm “wuthering heights” to Liverpool on a business trip where he found a little boy and brought him back with him to join his own family that consists of his daughter: Catherine, his son: Hindley, a manservant named Joseph and the maid: Ellen dean. Hindley and the other members of the family didn’t like the boy except Catherine who was happy to have a playmate. However, thing will change after the death of Earnshaw and Hindley takes over the household with his wife. Hindley used his power to reduce Heathcliff to the level of a servant; although Heathcliff and Catherine continue their intimacy.
one day Heathcliff and Catherine ran down to another farm: the Grange where the Lintons lived with their children: Edgar and Isabella. They didn’t like the spoiled Linton children so they yelled at them through the window and Catherine was caught. Catherine stayed at the Grange for 5 weeks and when she came, she was fully dressed and acting properly like a young lady. Hindley and his wife were pleased for that while Heathcliff was sad and unhappy. Catherine became aware that she and Heathcliff will never be together that’s why she accepted the proposal of Edgar Linton, the wealthy owner of the Grange.
