Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31st. The word Halloween is also known as Hallows ‘eve or Hallowe’ en. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people light bonfires and wear costumes to hunt the evil spirits.
In the eight century, pop Gregory 3 designed November 1 as a time to honor all saints; the holiday All Saints ’ Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ eve and later Halloween.
Halloween contains some traditional activities including: Trick-or-treating, bonfires, costumes parties, visiting haunted placesand carving jack-o-lanterns.
